California Participation Project The California Participation Project's mission is to expand the role of nonprofits in voting and elections. CPP works with nonprofit partners to provide information, resources, and tools for nonprofits to help nonprofits integrate civic engagement into their ongoing work, and to increase voter participation among the communities they serve. CPP services include: convenings and trainings, toolkit and resource distribution, and information about civic participation opportunities. CaliforniaVolunteers announces its 2010-11 Request for Applications, for funding to support partnerships to engage individuals in addressing unmet community needs throughout California. Grants are awarded to organizations that operate solely in California. AmeriCorps grants support organizations that use volunteering and service as strategies for addressing national and community needs, while fostering an ethic of civic responsibility. In return for their service, AmeriCorps participants, known as members, may receive a modest living allowance and other benefits while serving. Upon successful completion of their service, members receive an education award that can be used towards existing college loans or to pay continuing education costs. Glendale Healthier Community Coalition The Coalition

Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles is California's oldest and largest legal services program. As a Los Angeles law firm for people with low incomes, LAFLA promotes access to justice. strengthen communities, combat discrimination, and effect systemic change through representation, advocacy, and community education. County is divided into eight Service Planning Areas
(SPAs) for the purpose of delivering health care.
The San Fernando Valley is SPA 2 (it also includes the
Santa Clarita Valley, but does not include Burbank).
SPA 2 conducted a community needs assessment in 2004,

Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles County provides free legal services to low-income residents. The organization's advocacy is directed towards both the needs of the individual client requesting legal assistance, and to clients who seek to enforce the broader rights of the low-income community. Nonprofits Count! is a program of the Nonprofit Voter Engagement Network. The goal of this program is to encourage nonprofits to promote a complete census count in the everyday contacts they already have with those whom they provide services. Census engagement trainings and webinars for nonprofit and a Census Toolkit are available to help nonprofits develop a plan to incorporate census education into their existing activities. Valley Care Community Consortium VCCC is a health and
mental health planning collaborative for residents of
the San Fernando and Santa Clarita Valleys. VCCC
strives to create seamless and better-coordinated health
care delivery system for low-income and uninsured
residents in SPA 2. VCCC evaluates the community’s
health needs and provides a semi-annual Community Needs

Vision Birth is a program that partners with telecommunications company ACN to help churches and nonprofit organizations generate money on a recurring basis to fund their work. The program utilizes a direct marketing business model whereby supporters sign up for services (such as local and long distance phone service) and a percentage of their monthly bill goes back to the nonprofit they support.
